Remove oversized furniture:

When buying bedroom furniture – measure your room first! For many homeowners this is forgotten and they buy oversized dressers, night tables and head/foot boards for their bed that swallow up the room. Buy furniture that has a smaller profile and that is multifunctional. Many headboards have integral bookcases, and drawers to eliminate the need for separate furniture. This will save space and make your bedroom look and feel larger. A sofa bed or futon in a guest room or loft can give a sleeping area and sitting area at separate times of the day.

Optimize space you have forgotten:

There are several areas of your bedroom that is “real estate” for your storage.  Go vertical with bookshelves and even your bed. For kids’ rooms or for sharing a room with a roommate think about using a loft configuration. A loft will help you house multiple functions such as a desk, drawers, seating area and more. In children’s rooms consider adding see-through bins that can slide in and out. These will help kids keep organized and when affixed to a wall will save space for little ones to move around easier. In a master bedroom – consider wall sconce or wall mounted side lamps on either side of the bed to eliminate side tables.

Your bedroom doesn’t have to remain cramped and uncomfortable. Maximize vertical space, use smaller profile furniture, and let more light in when possible. Finding hidden storage in your bedroom will help you weed out what you don’t need in your bedroom and keep only what is necessary and cherished. Enjoy the new space in your bedroom!

Create the ideal kids’ room:

Let’s be honest, every parent wants to move into a home where their kids will feel instantly at home with beautiful colors, fun toys, made up beds and wonderful light pouring through the windows! While this may not be a snapshot of your regular day-to-day life with your children, give the illusion as if it is. Ensure you declutter your kid’s room first. Stuffed animals, toys and books all need to have a ‘home’. If your child has too much – consider donating, or start packing up some belongings for your next home. Homebuyers like to see plenty of space and in your children’s room there is no exception.

Similarly to adults and their home offices, kids need a place to be able to show their creativity and to study. Depending on the age of your children, stage your home to show off the versatility of their rooms. Ensure there is a study desk area and books and supplies are well organized. Provide plenty of lighting and remember to leave plenty of space to walk around.  There is no bigger turn off than a cramped child’s room!

Add color and texture to your kitchen:

In most of our kitchens the vast amount of hard surfaces is cold and uninviting. Floors, cabinetry, countertops and appliances can create a kitchen that is cold and lifeless. Greenery can bring texture into your kitchen and color. Whether you like fresh flowers, potted plants, or fresh herbs – line them up near a kitchen window for maximum light exposure. Many kitchen manufacturers make trough sinks and accessories to house a flower bud vase or a fresh bunch of herbs in your kitchen island. You will be surprised at the new kitchen trend to incorporate greenery easily and beautifully.

How Pebble Tile Can Enhance your Spa Bathroom

We all love a place in our home where we can get away from the world and slip into a relaxing bath or hot shower after a long day. Creating a spa bathroom that looks and feels like nature can be your oasis away from it all. In recent years, home interiors have used outdoor elements such as stones, pebbles, and rocks to create the feeling of bringing the outdoors in. Pebble tile comes in a variety of shapes and sizes and can be used on the floor, walls, and even on the shower floor! Look at these inspiring ways to bring pebble tile into your relaxing spa bathroom.

Choosing the right pebble tile for your bathroom:

Mother Nature makes stones and pebbles and therefore no two are alike. This is the beauty of pebble tile, because you get the beauty of the textured surface below your feet in the shower or against the wall behind your vanity.  Choosing the right one could be a challenge, and remember colors and sizes will vary based on your bathroom design style. Larger pebbles tend to look more rustic and imperfect, while smaller pebbles will give a more refined and sophisticated aesthetic. Visit your local tile showroom to see pebble tile installed in varying colors and with contrasting or complimenting grout colors.

Pebble tile can be easily installed:

If you’re thinking of adding pebble tile to your bathroom, it is relatively easy to install, similar to ceramic or porcelain tile that is affixed to a net backing. Consult with a tile retailer for the proper do-it -yourself supplies to install vertically on wall or horizontally on a floor.  Determine if you want an accent wall made from pebble tile or you’d like to mix and match it with ceramic, porcelain or even mosaics. The options are limitless to create a spa-like atmosphere in your restful bathroom.
